BlackBerry Ltd. discovered a buyer for its fleet-tracking system, taking a primary step into the crowded marketplace for monitoring cargo vans and trains.
The Waterloo, Ontario-based firm will set up 500 models of the BlackBerry Radar on trailers owned by Oakville, Ontario-based trucker Caravan Group. The Radar is a field that sticks on the again of a tractor-trailer container and incessantly updates its proprietor on the trailer’s temperature, location and whether or not the door is open or closed. A spokeswoman for BlackBerry declined to say what the deal was value.
The Radar is a part of Chief Government Officer John Chen’s marketing campaign to search out methods to take the corporate’s present patents and experience and apply them to new industries. Nonetheless, the market is crowded with well-established firms like Orbcomm and Fleetmatics Group.
